One year ago I walked up to my boss, at the barista job I hated, and handed in my two week notice. It was the first time I had ever really quit a job and boy did I feel liberated. When asked what I would be leaving to do, I proudly stated that I had “no clue”. By the end of January 2018 I made my last latte, received my final pay check, and boldly embraced the land of unemployment. Much to my disappointment getting a job proved to be much harder than anticipated. I was done working in the restaurant industry yet my college degree didn’t seem to get me much else. “That’s what you get for studying Psychology”, the thought that routinely came to mind.
All the while I kept blogging on this page, loving every minute of it. Then one day, amidst applying for countless jobs, I came across a webinar hosted by two dope girls (Amelia & Alyse) about health coaching. I had been following both of their social media accounts for a while and decided to sign up. I mean what did I have to lose? I could afford to take a short break from redrafting my cover letter. Little did I know that I was making one of the best decisions of my life.
Two hours later and (not to be dramatic) my life had changed. It was as if my intuition was screaming at me to pursue this path…and so I did. As much as I wanted to sign up for the program that night, I also needed to pay rent. A month later I found a job, signed up for the program and began my journey to become a Holistic Health Coach.
It was because of this blog that I discovered my passion for sharing my story. I realized how much joy it gave me to produce content I was passionate about in hopes of helping and inspiring others. And now, as I am mere weeks away from completing my health coaching program, I transition my passion project into a legitimate business. What started out as a creative outlet has transformed into an official LLC, something that I am immensely proud of.
So, as I make this transition I have decided to rebrand and rename this platform. As of January 2019, Holistic Herbivore becomes Mindful Peaks. I originally decided to call my blog Holistic Herbivore because I wanted the name to describe me as an individual. I am one happy herbivore who also has a passion for holistic health and nutrition...thus the name was born. But if the name was so fitting, why change it at all?
To me Holistic Herbivore was about me and my passions; veganism, trail running, zero-waste living, self-love, holistic health and the great outdoors. But I want my business to be larger than just me. I am going to coach clients and I do NOT want to limit my services to people who are just like me. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, paleo, keto, or eat whatever the heck you want, I’m here to help YOU, regardless of what is on your plate.
So why Mindful Peaks? To me health coaching is a way for me to empower others to reach their “peak”. Whether that be in helping them heal their relationship with food, find a fitness routine they actually enjoy, or offer guidance in other aspects of their life. Health is SO much more than just diet and exercise. It is comprised of the relationships we have, our career, home environment, spirituality, creativity, finances, education, home cooking, social life and it is continually evolving and changing. To be mindful of all aspects of our health allows us to reach our peak. When we become aware of the imbalances in our lives we are only then able to make the positive changes we desire.
Mindful Peaks has been a long time coming; something that I have been working towards for my 23 years of life. It is the culmination of passion and dedication to turn my dreams into a reality. And as I begin health coaching I am humbled by knowing that it is only the beginning. I have big dreams for the future of my company ranging from creating a cookbook to hosting a wellness retreat. Theses may seem like far off dreams to an outsider, but I know that not only am I capable of making them happen, I am worthy of living the life I desire.
Before I started my blog I wondered if anyone would even want to read what I had to say; if you would even be interested in hearing my story. But by writing about my passions I allowed my authentic self to come through. I was able to find my voice and pursue coaching. Now I plan on using that voice to help YOU and the rest of the world reach their PEAK.
